This is the same knife that I carried in Vietnam in the Marine Corps! I'm very pleased to learn that the Ka-Bar Company is still a successful company and continuing to manufacture these excellent combat knives. Highly recommended.

When I first saw this blade, it almost looked like it had been sharpened on the sidewalk. There are different ways to sharpen a knife depending on what your use is. My blade looks like it has a very coarse finish to it, but it was razor sharp from the factory and will cut through anything easily. I've used it for cutting branches, hemp and nylon rope, cardboard, steak and I've used it as a letter opener. It holds an edge well and is easy enough to sharpen with a wet stone and steel. These blades have a little higher carbon content so I keep it clean and lightly oiled. It has a nice balanced feel and is just a real pleasure to work with. It doesn't say it in the description but it does show in the pictures alongside the product, this knife comes with a nice Kydex plastic sheath that is made in Taiwan. This knife is the real thing, made in the USA. It's a KA-BAR and it goes with me everywhere.

Kabar makes a great knife. The USMC knife itself is a classic. Leather feels good, almost as hard as wood, and gives a really good grip. Only thing I need to say that was bad about the one I got was that the foreward grinds were off by a sixteenth of an inch. It doesn't sound like much, but as a result the tip looks a little weird, and when I place it flat on a surface as if to sharpen it, a slight bend is able to be seen. However, Kabar has a fantastic limited lifetime warranty - planning on sending it in and seeing if this grind flaw counts to a replacement kabar. BTW the powder coating wears off a little easily. BUT despite the grind flaw, everything else is pretty much perfect. Even with the grind the knife is still super sharp (hair shaving), and very strong. With a little sno-seal, leather handle should be good against water. It feels great in the hand.
